International Women’s Day 2012

For the past 11 years, ITF affiliates have participated in the ITF campaign for International Women’s Day on the 8th of March by organising practical activities to campaign for and secure women transport workers’ rights and increase their visibility and participation in the union movement. The ITF Women’s Committee is once again calling on affiliates to mark the day.

    International Women’s Day was celebrated by South Central Railway Employees’ Sangh (SCRES) an affiliate of National Federation of Indian Railwaymen (NFIR) and Indian National Trade Union Congress (INTUC) at Rail Nilayam Auditorium, Secunderabad, India on 06th March 2012. Mrs Katherine Dhanani, U.S. Consul General (Hyderabad Consulate) was the Chief Guest, Mrs Jayasudha Kapoor was our Guest of Honour and Mrs Uma Nagendramani Presided over. Competitions were held to encourage the field level workers to come on to the stage and share their real life experiences. About 700 women employees participated in the programme and made it a grand success.

    As a precursor of the event a Free Medical Check up Camp was organized on 05th March 2012 by South Central Railway Employees’ Sangh (SCRES) under the guidance and assistance Yashoda Hospitals, Hyderabad, India.
