My name is Alex Tokhi. I work at Unifor Canada as national chair. I joined the ITF young workers team on a secondment programme to develop my organising skills.

On September 27th to 30th I had the pleasure of participating in the ITF Africa Young Transport Workers Workshop and Climate Change

Seminar in Dakar, Senegal, representing the ITF and it was an honour meeting young unionist from various countries of Africa. The topics covered included the challenges that young transport workers from the region face in their respective unions and how to fight for climate justice.

During the week, the participants shared their experiences and discussed the available tools and resources to develop good leadership skills and to actively promote involvement of young transport workers in the international union movement.

We also run a seminar on climate change and assessed how we can help reducing emissions in the transportation industry and the challenges and opportunities this brings for workers. The information was received with great enthusiasm and participants were eager to implement many changes in their workplaces.

This was a great opportunity for me as I was able to actively facilitate the seminar. I was very humble to represent ITF and Unifor Canada and I am extremely grateful to the Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung for organizing this event.

I would also like to thank all the participants for their involvement. It was a great group and their enthusiasm and positive spirit helped make our time together both productive and fun. I wish you all the best.
